How It Works

Resilient AF — Personal Training Services

Life is busy and coordinating schedules can be hard. To make my personal training services as accessible as possible, we can meet in-person or I can design and deliver a personalized workout program for you to do on your own. Learn more about the onboarding process and how it all works!

My training schedule is currently full! I am typically able to onboard new clients in January and September. If you’re able to wait, you can get on the waitlist and I’ll be in touch to schedule a Discovery Call as soon as some room opens up.

Book a Discovery Call

Let’s make sure we’re a good fit before we spend time juggling schedules! This free 30-minute conversation is our chance to talk about your goals and my training style to make sure we’re going to jive. It’s also your time to ask me questions, address any concerns you have, and do a deeper dive on why you’re interested in personal training services. The Discovery Call can be either a Zoom session or a phone call. Book your Discovery Call.

Schedule Your Session Zero

If we decide to work together following that Discovery Call, I’ll send over a Welcome Packet and invitation to schedule your Session Zero! In Dungeons & Dragons (yeah, I’m THAT kind of nerd), we run a Session Zero before the campaign begins to set expectations, create characters, and build a solid foundation for the game.

This Session Zero serves the same purpose. It’s where we’ll set expectations, establish a baseline, and start putting together your future training plans. Because I practice body neutral fitness coaching, I don’t use any weight- or measurement-based assessments. Everything we do during this session will focus on how you feel when you move.

Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and come prepared to move! We’ll practice some movement patterns and targeted mobility assessments during this session.

Complete the Welcome Packet.

Homework time! While you wait for your Session Zero, you can get to work on your welcome packet. This packet includes a detailed health history and lifestyle questionnaire, liability waivers, and a place for you to write down your goals and expectations. All of this information is 100% confidential and securely stored! The more detailed you are on these documents, the better I can tailor your workouts, so don’t hold back.

Let’s Get to Work!

At the end of your Session Zero, we’ll pull it all together and talk about what happens next. This is where we’ll establish:

    • Training frequency and your availability
    • Where we’ll train when we meet in-person (at my studio, at your home, in a park, etc)
    • Setting the date for your first official personal training session with me!

Timeline: It typically takes 1-2 weeks to get from the Discovery Call to the first full training session. That allows you plenty of time to complete your Welcome Packet and gives me time to integrate your responses and assessments into a fitness coaching plan.

In-Person Training

The best option for beginners or folks with training plans that include Olympic-style lifting. In-person training gives me the best opportunity to monitor your form and make sure you’re moving safely. We can train at your home, an apartment gym, a local park or outdoor space, or in-studio at the Breathe Building.

Hybrid

The best option for beginners or folks with some previous experience. With hybrid training, we’ll meet in-person to review form cues and personalize exercises, then you’ll complete workouts on your own via personalized programming in the TrueCoach App.

Program Design

The best option for folks with access to a gym and/or their own equipment and folks who have already done in-person training with me. As a certified personal trainer with a Virtual Coaching Specialization, I”m trained to coach and cue clients through remote training sessions.

Group Fitness Classes

If you live in or around Portland, Oregon, group fitness classes are a great way to meet me and get a feel for my coaching style! They’re also a budget-friendly way to complement your personal training and keep moving between 1:1 sessions. I’m currently coaching group classes Monday-Thursdays at the Breathe Building.

Sliding Scale Pricing Policy

I believe that fitness services should be accessible to everyone. I also recognize that we all come from diverse backgrounds and intersections of identity, which can impact the resources we have available to invest in fitness. All personal training and group training is provided on a sliding scale. I ask clients to choose a point on that scale that feels doable and meaningful to them, knowing that the people who pay the highest points help fund those who pay closer to the bottom of the scale. If you have the financial means and want to sponsor training sessions for your community, get in touch!

Pricing FAQ

Do you offer discounts for bulk sessions?

Nope! Because my services are on a sliding scale, YOU already determine the cost of each session. If you’re willing and able to pay for bulk sessions, doing so can be an awesome accountability tool. But each session is the same cost, whether you pay for 1 or 10 at a time.

How does the sliding scale work?

With sliding scale pricing, you select the cost you pay according to what you understand about your financial situation. I’m honored to serve a community that comes from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and intersections of identity. Sliding scale pricing lets me sustainably do what I love, with and for the people who value my services.

What if I can't pay the true value for a session?

That’s what a scale is meant to account for! It’s ok to not have resources, just like it’s ok to have them. For this work to be sustainable for me, on average I need most people to self-select in the true value range. But! I do this work knowing that people who pay the highest points help support my work with folks who pay on the lower end of the sliding scale.

How do you determine the true value of a session?

I mean, to me each session is priceless 😘 But technically speaking, in addition to our actual hour training together the true cost of a session covers:

  • Session prep and workout programing
  • Equipment maintenance and purchases for more versatile training sessions
  • Studio rental fees and/or travel costs
  • Professional development (AKA workshops and certifications)
  • Time spent behind the scenes keeping things running; y’all, there are soooo many emails to read

Do you charge more for in-home vs. in-studio training sessions?

Nope! My 1:1 training prices are the same across the board. Accessibility is a huge concern for many of my clients and I’d hate for lack of transportation to keep you from pursuing your movement goals.

That said, gas is expensive and auto maintenance is a significant business cost for me! If I train with you in-home and you have the financial means, please consider paying slightly higher on the sliding scale to help cover travel costs.

How do you decide how much a client can afford?

I don’t! That’s entirely up to you. You know your financial reality better than anyone else. Period. I just ask every person I work with to honestly assess their current financial situation and choose a point that feels doable and meaningful.

HELP! I don't know how much I can afford 😅

Don’t worry! You can use this guide to help situate yourself on the sliding scale.
